Good news everyone! The series, Theta, that I've been working on under KPSpark recently had a resounding success with a kickstarter raising over $2300 with a goal of only $900! This is especially fantastic not only because it confirms a genuine interest in the show continuing but it has also allowed a paradigm shift from charity/hobby to where this is now going to be a paid gig! My first paying acting job at that! Furthermore, the Birmingham Children's Theatre is having an open call early April. I have selected my monologue and musical piece (drawing from the amazing show Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog) deciding between My Eyes (On the Rise), Slipping, or A Man's Gotta Do. Needless to say with receiving my first paid gig and auditioning for a live theatre show I'm feeling a bit phantasmagorical.
I don't believe I mentioned before that the site I'm using is voices.com. After submitting several auditions I've finally started to get some responses. I think the best thing to keep in mind for anyone starting out is that you need to be patient. For example I understand I don't have any background as of yet to show that I'm a worthy candidate for any projects; but I understand that with the feedback I've received that I'm at least on the right track. I've also recently realized that an area I'm going to need to work on is is creating some characters that I'll be able to sustainably read with. It does seem rather weird considering the voice I'm wanting to play around with are louder voices and I'm not a loud person. However, I believe that it's necessary to spread and practice whatever talents I can. I highly recommend to anyone, but especially to any fellow actors who are striving as I am to get their foot in the door, to check out iwanttobeavoiceactor.com as well as Rob Paulsen's "Talkin' Tunes" as these are great resources for getting you set in the right direction. I'm growing more upset that there is so little in the realm of professional training in Birmingham, but we'll see how thing pan out with the direction I'm heading in now and still keep tabs on any opportunities that may arise to bolster my portfolio. Will have a demo ready by the end of this week if all goes well.
